MEADOW VISTA ASPHALT PLANT FACTS
updated 4-01-05

  • Teichert Construction has a CalTrans contract to resurface I-80 from Newcastle to Colfax (through 2006).
  • In 2004 Chevreaux agreed to supply the aggregate and locate the asphalt plant in their quarry at the end of Combie Road in Meadow Vista.
  • The Teichert plant was delivered in March 2005, and was partially assembled.
  • Teichert, responding to community concerns, recently announced their decision to remove this plant and bring the asphalt from their plant in Sacramento County.
  • Placer County Planning Dept. and County Counsel are reviewing the permit granted in 1972 (superseding the permit granted in 1971), when Chevreaux moved their asphalt plant location 600 feet. The proposed location for their permanent asphalt plant is 1,000 feet away from the 1972 location. MVP believes that is one reason for a NEW PERMIT APPLICATION.
  • In March 2005, a letter from Placer County Public Health Officer Dr. Richard Burton to the MVP MAC indicated his concerns regarding potential health impacts of an asphalt plant at the Chevreaux Quarry.

Residents are concerned about PUBLIC HEALTH & SAFETY IMPACTS - AIR and WATER POLLUTION, DANGER on our roads and trails, risk of FIRE & EXPLOSION from HAZARDOUS MATERIALS, NOISE, and INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENTS. POTENTIAL ECONOMIC IMPACTS include DEPRESSING PROPERTY VALUES, RISING INSURANCE PREMIUMS or LOSS of INSURANCE, requirements for DISCLOSURE of hazardous conditions on real estate transactions.
